On March 5th, 1999, Westfalia Landtechnik GmbH, Germany, completed the purchase of Babson Bros. Co., the manufacturer of Surge dairy farm equipment and related supplies. The purchase created a new company Westfalia•Surge, Inc., uniting the number two manufacturer in North America, Babson Bros. Co., with the number two company in the world, Westfalia. The acquisition brings two of the world's most recognized brands of dairy equipment together, providing dairy producers the most complete line of milking systems, cooling, sanitation and dairy supply product lines available within the industry.

The new Westfalia•Surge offers dairy producers more innovation, more products and more services than either company did separately. The goal is to create the most responsive company, with the highest technology and quality, and broadest selection of products from a single supplier. Together with its distribution partners, Westfalia•Surge is dedicated to aggressively grow its business, achieving an industry leadership position in sales and market share within the product lines and services that it provides.
