USA: World Leader In Sustainable Milk Production

Mexico City /PRNewswire/ - Did you know that the United States dairy industry is producing milk efficiently by optimizing and taking care of each of the natural resources.

The United States Dairy Export Council (USDEC), founded in 1995, is dedicated to improving the quality of life of people and protecting the environment by helping the livestock industry adopt rigorous standards of quality in the production of dairy products.

In 28 years of working side by side with dairy producers they have managed to reduce the number of dairy cows in use, from 25 million in 1944 to only 9 million today, producing 60% more milk.

This increase in efficiency has not sacrificed animal welfare. The cows enjoy a nutritious diet of seeds, fruit pulp and almond shells, which benefits both cows and consumers.

It is important to note that 95% of dairy farms are family businesses, where the safety and health of the cows is of vital importance, as they are the main source of income.

99% of USDEC member farms voluntarily participate in FARM (Farmers Assuring Responsible Management), the first care program worldwide recognized by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Regarding water conservation on American farms, it is recycled for cooling milk, washing stalls, and irrigating crops.

New technologies are also used to recover and reuse water to produce cheese, milk powder, whey protein, among other dairy products.

When it comes to caring for the land, dairy farms adopt conservation tillage, avoiding soil disturbance to maintain healthy, greenhouse gas-free crops.

Practices that have allowed dairy farms in drought-stricken regions to better manage water scarcity, while reducing the use of chemicals, fuels and the amount of dust particles in the air.

The culture of sustainability of dairy farms in the United States protects the environment while promoting the health and well-being of everyone involved from consumers to cows.
