Sauereisen Upgrades Furan Mortar For Masonry Process Floors

Pittsburgh - Sauereisen recently introduced its new, improved Furan Mortar No. 21C for corrosive environments. The upgraded product, resulting from dedicated research, boasts increased temperature resistance to 450ºF. In addition, it exhibits tensile-bond strength well above industry standards.

Other enhancements include greater resistance to thermal shock and impact. Also, Sauereisen No. 21C will now withstand sulfuric acid at a concentration as high as 60 percent. The advancement in materials and physical properties was accomplished without sacrificing cost competitiveness and the new list price is actually lower.

"Our absence from the market in 2004 was due to a key curative ingredient that became cost prohibitive," said C. Karl Sauereisen, vice president. "However, we viewed the reformulation of Furan Mortar 21C as an opportunity beyond simply replicating it. In the end, we greatly improved the product's performance at a cost less than the original formulation."

Furan Mortar No. 21C is a carbon-filled mortar/grout commonly used in brick or tile construction. Typical applications include flooring, tanks or trenches within food plants, dairies, steel mills or chemical processing plants.
