New Metallized PET Product Range Introduced By Toray Plastics (America) Inc.

NORTH KINGSTON, RI (June 2003) – Toray Plastics (America) Inc. announces the introduction of its new technologically advanced metallized PET films ideal for food, dairy, lidding, coffee, personal care, pharmaceutical, board lamination and electronic applications. The films provide converters and end users with important technical and aesthetic advantages.

The metallized PET films provide excellent oxygen barrier properties as well as enhanced thermal stability for products that are exposed to high levels of heat during the packaging process. The MPET films also offer important visual characteristics including bright shine and superior printability to prevent scuffing and rub-off.

"Toray's new state-of-the-art metallized PET films offer valuable manufacturing and aesthetic advantages," said Phil Dabbert, New Product Manager at Toray Plastics (America) Inc. "Thermal stability allows converters and end users to maximize production efficiencies while crisp appearance enhances brand appeal."

The new metallized PET films include:

  • MP61 MP61 metallized PET film provides superior visual performance, making it ideal for board lamination, personal care, cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications. The film features a chemically treated surface for enhanced ink adhesion and a bright, crisp, shiny appearance.
  • MB45 MB45 is a high-performance metallized PET film. The film features a highly-engineered surface treatment that prevents metal delamination as well as a corona treated surface for printing or lamination. The superior metal adhesion offered by MB45 makes it ideal for food and dairy lidding applications as well as various pouch laminates.
  • MB35 MB35 metallized PET film provides superior oxygen and moisture barrier. The film combines an oxygen barrier of .05cc/100in2/day with a moisture barrier of .05g/100in2/day and is corona treated for printing or lamination. The high oxygen and moisture barrier offered by the film make it ideal for coffee applications.

The new metallized PET packaging films are the latest additions to Toray Plastics (America) Inc.'s metallized film portfolio, which includes metallized holographic films like U6E and metallized OPP films such as Torayfan PC-2. Toray's films are all metallized in-house, which allows for superior quality control and ensures consistent performance in the production of both OPP and PET metallized film solutions.
