Minneapolis, MN - MOCON, Inc. has established a presence in Asia with the opening of its technical support office in Shanghai, China.

MOCON has been selling instrumentation to Chinese companies for more than 15 years. The recent growth in the number of domestic and international food, beverage and packaging facilities and the heightened interest in quality assurance instrumentation made this the appropriate time to establish a presence on the Asian continent.

"We've seen first hand that Chinese companies want their technology to match the rest of the developed world. Consumers there are now starting to demand the same quality and safety levels that are found in the West," says Robert Demorest, president and chief executive officer, MOCON.
Initially, MOCON's office in Shanghai will be supporting instrumentation in the following categories: permeation, headspace analysis and leak detection. These units have been engineered to provide data on the factors that most impact shelf life for food, beverage, pharmaceutical and medical applications.

The Shanghai office will be supported by a regional sales manager and a service engineer. Interested customers in the region may visit the office to receive demonstrations and gain a better understanding of MOCON's capability and potential impact to their operation.

"With more than 100 MOCON instruments already installed in laboratories in China, we are thrilled to now have a presence there that will help us better serve China, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, India, Indonesia and other Asian countries," Demorest says.

In addition to its corporate headquarters in Minneapolis, MN and other facilities in the United States, MOCON also has a European sales and manufacturing facility outside of Koblenz, Germany. With the opening of the Shanghai location, the company now has a physical presence on three continents.
