Intervet Announces Vista 3 VL5 SQ

AD

Millsboro, DL - Intervet Inc. announces the availability of Vista 3 VL5 SQ. The modified-live viral (MLV) vaccine provides long-lasting reproductive protection against Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR), Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD) Type 1 and Type 2, Campylobacter fetus (Vibriosis) and Leptospirosis, including L. hardjo bovis, in a single, convenient subcutaneous (Sub-Q) dose.

Vista 3 VL5 SQ is based on the same Intervet technology veterinarians and producers trust, delivering the most complete protection against the four most costly diseases impacting bovine reproductive health.

"Vista 3 VL5 SQ vaccine offers beef and dairy producers the most appropriate pre-breeding disease protection," says Scott Nordstrom, D.V.M., Intervet Veterinary Services Manager. "This vaccine is specifically tailored for beef and dairy producers to provide the reproductive protection needed by combining antigens for IBR, BVD Types 1 and 2, as well as Vibrio and Lepto, including L. hardjo bovis. Beef and dairy producers can rest assured knowing they are getting unparalleled reproductive disease protection in the convenience of a single, Sub-Q dose."

The Vista 3 VL5 SQ vaccine is a line extension to Intervet's Vista vaccines, introduced in 2005. Vista, the premier MLV vaccine for cattle, provides the most complete protection available against respiratory and reproductive diseases.

Most Complete, Long-lasting Reproductive Protection

Vista 3 VL5 SQ is the only one-dose, three-way modified-live viral combination with Vibriosis and five-way Lepto protection that includes L. hardjo bovis. The L. hardjo bovis protection provided from the VL5 SQ fraction demonstrated in a study 100 percent protection from urine shedding of Lepto hardjo following a virulent challenge. In addition, cattle vaccinated with VL5 SQ had a 66 percent conception rate improvement compared to controls following an aggressive Campylobacter fetus challenge. "Vista 3 is the only MLV vaccine with a labeled duration of immunity (DOI) for IBR, BVD Type 1 and BVD Type 2, while Vista 3 VL5 SQ features IBR abortion and persistent infection protection for BVD Type 1 and BVD Type 2," says Nordstrom.

He adds, "It's also important for producers to remember that Vista is the only MLV vaccine that has been proven to provide BVD Type 1 fetal protection for the entire pregnancy. That means protection against both persistent and fetal infections."

Beef Quality Assurance Compliant

Labeled for the vaccination of healthy cows and heifers prior to breeding, Vista 3 VL5 SQ is compliant with Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) recommendations with vaccination consisting of a single, 2-mL dose administered in the neck subcutaneously.

Nordstrom reminds producers and veterinarians of the importance of Sub-Q vaccine administration, stating that injection-site lesions still cost the industry millions of dollars each year.

"The National Cattlemen's Beef Association's BQA guidelines encourage beef producers to use cattle vaccines, like Vista, that are administered subcutaneously to help eliminate the costly damage to the end beef product caused by products administered intramuscularly."

Vista 3 VL5 SQ is available in 10- and 50-dose presentations. Annual revaccination is recommended.
