FrieslandCampina Ingredients Completes Production Expansion For Whey Protein Isolate And Milk Fat Globule Membrane
FrieslandCampina Ingredients has completed the expansion of its production facilities in Borculo. With this expansion, the company has doubled its production capacity for whey protein isolate (WPI) and milk fat globule membrane (MFGM): two ingredients that are playing an increasingly important role across various nutrition segments worldwide.
Strengthening global protein capacity
Global demand for high quality proteins continues to accelerate. With the expansion, announced in 2023 and now fully operational, FrieslandCampina Ingredients is able to supply more high-quality dairy ingredients worldwide, for applications in early life nutrition, performance and active nutrition, and medical nutrition.
“The commissioning of our expanded Borculo facility marks an important milestone in our strategy to lead the global protein market and meet the world’s growing demand,” said Anne Peter Lindeboom, President of FrieslandCampina Ingredients. “With over a century of expertise in dairy proteins, we are blending deep scientific knowledge with cutting-edge processing technology to deliver high-quality ingredients that drive innovation across all nutrition markets. Building on our recent acquisition of Wisconsin Whey Protein in North America, this expansion reflects our strategic focus on strengthening our global protein capabilities. By combining regional scale, advanced processing and application expertise, we can better support our customers and respond to the evolving needs of consumers worldwide.”
Advanced technology and sustainable production
The production site in Borculo uses advanced technologies to preserve the bio-functionality of whey, ensuring the quality and functionality of the ingredients. The site also implements measures to reduce CO₂ emissions, in line with FrieslandCampina’s broader climate targets for 2030.
