Ben & Jerry's Searches Coast-to-Coast for 'Citizen Cool'. 'Citizen Cool' Documentary To Spotlight Ordinary People With Extraordinary Heart.

Ben & Jerry's cameras will be criss-crossing the country this summer searching for local community heroes to star in the documentary ``Citizen Cool''.

``We're creating a 30-minute documentary about unsung local heroes working to make our neighborhoods -- and our world -- a better place to live,'' explains Peter Nolan, national marketing manager for Ben & Jerry's. ``While the nightly news too often comes across as mostly negative, we're noticing a different trend: citizens who truly care about community. We're calling the movie Citizen Cool because we want to spotlight the positive grass-roots changes happening all around us -- thanks to ordinary folks with extraordinary hearts!''

Ben & Jerry's camera crews will be cruising the country beginning June 1, 2001 to capture likely candidates for the movie in action. Know a cool citizen -- or even two -- you'd like to nominate? Just jot down how they're helping promote positive change in your community, in 50 to 150 words. (Entry forms and complete rules are available at Ben & Jerry's scoop shops and local supermarkets, or at www.benjerry.com.)

Weekly winners will be selected while the nominations stream in. Once the casting call closes on August 17, 2001, the top 10,000 ``community stars'' nominated will receive a free pint coupon for Ben & Jerry's new movie-themed Concession Obsession(TM) ice cream plus a Citizen Cool certificate, honoring them for their outstanding community involvement. Glittering Golden Cone statuettes will be presented to 48 great semi-finalists. And 12 fabulous finalists will win a Citizen Cool director's chair, a one-year supply of Ben & Jerry's ice cream, plus a trip for two to Vermont -- to watch the Citizen Cool movie premiere on October 27, 2001!

``Most exciting of all, our three Grand Prize Winners will become the stars of the Citizen Cool movie -- we'll send film crews to follow them as they bring positive change to their communities. It's a way not only to honor these folks for their creative ideas and good work, but also to inspire others to follow their terrific lead,'' explains Nolan. ``And because good news is always worth sharing, we'll be presenting Citizen Cool at independent film festivals and in educational settings, and show clips in streaming video on our website.''
