Established in 1946 by the Australian Commonwealth Government as the 'Commonwealth Handling Equipment Pool' CHEP was acquired in 1958 by Brambles of Sydney, Australia.
In 1974, Brambles joined forces with the Industrial Services Division of GKN of London and together they have expanded the CHEP business across the globe.
With the exception of Australia and New Zealand (wholly owned by Brambles) and South Africa (wholly owned by GKN) the businesses are owned 50% by GKN and 50% by Brambles.
Today the CHEP name stands proud as the world leader in equipment pooling systems.
Since those early days when pallet-hire was its only business, the range of CHEP products and services has been dramatically expanded to facilitate an ever-increasing variety of pooling solutions. . . all designed to meet the diverse needs of our markets and customers around the world.
