Over three-quarters of a century of Farmers Working Together
"There's efficiency and strength when we work together." That's the principle on which the Cabot Creamery Cooperative was founded by the farmers of Cabot, Vermont, almost 80 years ago. It's the same principle on which the Cabot brand and its parent cooperative, Agri-Mark, continue to thrive today.

The Dairy Business Consolidates and Grows
Shortly after Cabot Creamery was founded, America's demographics changed significantly. Throughout the 1920s and '30s, millions of people moved to the cities - and could no longer get their dairy products from nearby farms. The value of milk increased dramatically. And so, in addition to making butter, Cabot Creamery began supplying milk to bottlers across southern New England, and began making cheddar and cottage cheese. Over the next 60 years, Cabot grew from a $3,700 idea into a multi-million dollar business. By 1990 - with 330 million pounds of milk a year from its 400 farmer-owners throughout the North Country - Cabot was producing high-quality and highly sought-after butters, cheeses, and yogurts.

Strength for the Future
Today the Cabot brand includes full lines of butter, sour cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, light cheddar... and, most notably, traditional cheddar cheese that has won every major cheesemaking prize awarded in the United States. All Cabot products are sold throughout New England, New York, the Mid-Atlantic states, and parts of Florida and California. Cabot's Classic Private Stock and Vintage Choice cheese are featured in the best specialty food stores across the country. And through Cabot's web site and mail-order department, all Cabot cheddars can be enjoyed by cheese-lovers everywhere.
