In the late 1950's, a New York City lawyer first recognized the need for a more controlled method of dispensing aerosols. The very first unit was made of metal and used a reversing clock motor which simply rotated and pushed a trigger arm which in turn pushed down the aerosol valve. This first unit therefore had to plug into a wall outlet. These first metal units were set to fire the aerosol once every fifteen minutes.
In 1960, a Canadian marketer began to market these units in Canada. This was the beginning of many improvements. The first was the changing of the time cycle from 15 minutes to 7 1/2 minutes. This change allowed our unit to spray twice for every normal air change in a room, improving its efficiency. The next change was to add air fresheners aerosols to expand the use of the machine. These changes began to create an increasing demand in Canada.
There was another change of ownership at this point and the new owner, an accountant received a government grant to improve on the existing unit. At first there were many problems and it looked like the company might fail, but a strong belief in the product carried the day. The development of a circuit board together with a solenoid, powered by a battery became known as the Air Guard Actuator. This method of dispensing an aerosol became an instant hit and along with good marketing, Air Guard was on its way to becoming a force in the Agricultural and Food Industry. The battery as a power source now made it possible to place Actuators anywhere they were needed and not just where a plug could be found.
There have been many minor improvements over the years but no real changes were made until 1990 when a new cabinet style was introduced to give our Actuator the look of the nineties.
We believe now that Air Guard's Actuator has evolved to be the best in the industry and we are committed to keeping it that way.
