Winn-Dixie's Processing Plants Receive Kosher Certification

Jacksonville, FL - The Orthodox Union recently certified Winn-Dixie's two dairy plants — one in Plant City, Fla., and the other in Hammond, La. -- bringing the grocer's total number of private label kosher products to just over 1,000.

"Winn-Dixie is dedicated to bringing our customers the kind of service and products they desire in every area we serve. Our kosher initiative is an important part of that commitment," said Deborah Shapiro, specialty foods category manager at Winn-Dixie. "We believe our customers will be pleased with the expanded affordable kosher selection now available to them."

In addition to Winn-Dixie brand milk, its private label orange juices, teas, and all flavors of Chek soda will now display the kosher symbol on their labels. In addition, Thrifty Maid beverages, Premium fruit drinks and Prestige ice cream flavors are kosher certified as well.

Last year, Winn-Dixie began its kosher initiative by partnering with the Star-K to provide educational information for their consumers and Associates. In April of this year, the supermarket chain opened a new Star-K certified kosher deli and bakery in Tamarac, Fla. In addition, most stores that have recently undergone remodeling are now stocking an expanded selection of kosher products.
