For its excellence in protecting quality from farm to table and in customer service, Mayfield Dairy in Birmingham, AL is the recipient of the Dean Foods CEO Quality Award for ice cream. This award is the company's top honor and Mayfield Dairy was selected over Dean Foods' 8 other ice cream plants after a rigorous, year-long judging process.

The award was presented to a group of tenured employees representing nearly 180 years of service with Mayfield Dairy in Birmingham, AL on May 6 by Dean Foods CEO, Gregg Tanner.

"Dean Foods holds its plants to incredibly high standards, making for particularly stiff competition surrounding this award," said Tanner. "We are delighted with the level of excellence Mayfield Dairy brought with it when it joined Dean Foods and we're proud to hold them up as an example."

This top honor is the culmination of an intensive assessment process. Five fluid milk plants and three ice cream plants, including Mayfield Dairy, were selected as Excellence in Quality Award winners based on multiple criteria such as Safe Quality Food (SQF) Program scores, training participation and consumer complaint improvement.

These eight plants were then scrutinized further by senior Dean Foods leadership who took into account quality innovations, best practices and the "quality culture" within the plant. Mayfield Dairy emerged as the cream of the crop in the ice cream category.

"At Mayfield Dairy, we are committed to providing wholesome, great-tasting dairy products to families right here in the state of Alabama, and to those across the country and overseas," said Eddie Allen, Plant Manager for Mayfield Dairy. "Quality is of the utmost importance to us, and it starts with our people who do a fantastic job every day."
